Tishman International to address green building strategies at 5th international facility managenent conference in Sofia, Bulgaria
October 15, 2010, 11:19 (PX Newswire)
Los Angeles-based Tishman International Companies, a leading international commercial real estate development and management company, will be making a presentation at the Fifth International Facility Management Conference, themed "Sustainability and Efficiency" to be held on October 15, 2010 at the Holiday Inn in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The purpose of the conference is to bring together facility managers and experts in the field from throughout Bulgaria and southeastern Europe to exchange ideas and knowledge about sustainable building development and management, the creation of healthy and more productive workplaces, and the importance of good design for a successful, energy-efficient building.
Representing Tishman International at the conference, Carlo Marzot, Senior Partner and Managing Director of EZ MEP International and will present "The Green Advantage of Sofia Airport Center (SAC)," the first commercial, LEED-certified office building in Bulgaria, developed by Tishman International/GE.
Tishman International designed Sofia Airport Center located adjacent to Sofia International Airport, as a model of innovative, environmentally friendly development thus creating the first commercial "Green" building in Bulgaria.. The environmental benefits of green design are significant: green buildings can reduce energy consumption, CO2 emissions, water usage and solid waste by as much as 50-70 percent, and the cost savings that result are good for business.
"As a pioneer of green development in Bulgaria, Tishman International is committed to providing the latest information about green buildings, sustainability strategies, and the advantages they offer to facility managers throughout Europe," said Tishman Chairman Alan D. Levy.
The SAC team of owner, architect and MEP engineers and general contractor early on established the goal of collaborating to achieve LEEDÆ Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for the office building being developed at SAC. In five key areas critical to qualifying for LEED, each with multiple factors to take into consideration, the development team used a range of strategies to attain the best possible green outcomes. The five areas are:
o A sustainable site with low impact on its surroundings
o Water efficiency
o Energy consumption and carbon management
o Environmentally friendly materials and resources; and
o Indoor air and environmental quality.
For the benefit of facility managers attending the conference, Mr. Marzot will detail the energy-saving strategies and sustainable materials used at SAC to reach the primary goal of green design-to provide a safe, healthy and comfortable workplace for the building's users and occupants.
"Tishman International is very pleased to be contributing to the development of green buildings in Bulgaria. The construction of SAC is just one aspect of our company's involvement in Bulgaria's economic growth and real estate market", noted Mr. Levy. ìWe are grateful for the support we have received from the Bulgarian government and local enterprises. Tishman is committed to continuing to work together toward a healthy and sustainable future,î he concluded.
